Declaration of Belief

The Church believes:

  • In the sixty-six books of the Bible which make up the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments – in their original writings as fully inspired of God, inherent and infallible, and accept them as the supreme and final authority by which all human conduct, faith, creeds and opinions should be tried. (1 Thess. 2:13; 2 Tim.3:16-17; 1 Peter 1:21).
  • In one God eternally existing in three persons, co-equal in essence, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Exodus 3:14; Matt. 28: 19-20; Mark 12:32; John 8:58; Acts 5:3,4; 1 Tim. 2:5; James 2:19; 2 Peter 1:17)
  • That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. (Luke 1:26-35; 1 Tim. 2:5; Rev. 1:8; Rev. 22:13)
  • That God created man in His own image; that men sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual, and that all human beings inherit a sinful nature, which issues in actual transgression involving personal guilt. (Gen. 1:27; Gen. 3)
  • That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice, according to the Scriptures, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. (Matt. 20:28; Mark 10:45; 1 Tim. 2:3-6′ 1 Peter 1:18-19)
  • In the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into Heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate. (Matt. 24:1-8; Luke 24:50; Acts 1:9; Heb. 7:24-25; 1 John 2:1)
  • In the personality of the Holy Spirit; His regenerating work, demonstrating the evidence of grace in a believer and His abiding presence in the true believer. (Acts 8:29; 10:19; Eph. 4:30).
  • That all who repent of sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ trusting Him for salvation, demonstrate faith and are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. (John 1:10-13; Acts 2:36 -39)
  • That all Christians are called to a life of obedience, holiness, service, worship and devotion to God the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14:23; 1 Peter 1:15-16)
  • In the bodily resurrection both the righteous and the unrighteous, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment for those who have ignored or rejected the offer of salvation. (Luke 24:39; John 20:24-29; John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15, 1 Cor. 15:23)
  • That the one true Church is the whole company of those who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, been redeemed by Him and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and that the local church on earth should take its character from this conception of the Church spiritual, and therefore, that the new birth and a personal testimony which confesses Jesus Christ as Lord are essentials of Church membership. (Eph. 5:25-27)
  • In the priesthood of all believers. (1 Peter 2:4,5,9)
  • That the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper – to be observed as acts of obedience and as a perpetual witness to the cardinal facts of the Christian faith. That Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as a confession of identification with Christ in burial and resurrection, and that the Lord’s Supper is the partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine as symbolical of the Saviour’s broken body and shed blood, in remembrance of His sacrificial death till His return. (1 Cor. 11:23-29; Matt. 28:19-20)
  • In the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14:1-4; Acts 1:11)
  • We believe that God has sanctioned marriage between a man and a woman, therefor we believe in heterosexual relationships between a natural man and a natural woman within the confines of lawful matrimony. Adherence to this stated principle of sexual behaviour is an inherent requirement for membership with Crossway.
